BOCA RATON — Boca Raton Women’s Club members and officials
representing Boca Raton area universities recently gathered at the
Eleanor Baldwin House on the Florida Atlantic University Campus for
a celebration luncheon and presentation of awards from the Helen M.
Babione Medical Scholarship Fund, which was established to assist
and encourage students studying in the medical field.
Dr. M.J. Saunders, president of Florida Atlantic University, welcomed
guests to the Baldwin House and expressed her appreciation for the
club’s scholarship programs.
Women’s Club President, Sue Gerding, officially opened the meeting
by giving the Invocation, leading the Pledge of Allegiance and
introducing officials seated at the head table.
In the presentation of the awards, Janice Williams, Boca Raton
Woman’s Club 1st V.P. and “Honor Your Doctor Scholarship
Luncheon” Chair, was joined by Helen Babione, for whom the
scholarship was named.
On hand to accept the awards were: Dr. Stuart Markowitz, FAU
College of Medicine; Marlaine Smith, Dean, FAU Christine E. Lynn
College of Nursing; Dr. Bernadette Russell, Provost, Palm Beach
State College and John Gallo, Retired Director of Development, Lynn
University.
Following the presentation of the awards, Shawn Friedkin, Founder
and President of “Stand Among Friends” addressed the group
and informed them of the successes of his programs to assist the
handicapped.
Funds generated from the annual Boca Raton Women’s Club “Honor
Your Doctor Luncheon” have made these medical scholarships
available. The 14th annual luncheon will be held March 7at Boca West
