Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach is collecting monetary donations for the drought and famine stricken areas of East Africa. The funds will be directed to Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the official international relief and developme
nt agency of the Catholic Church in the United States.
The United Nations officially declared a famine in parts of Somalia, the first such declaration in two decades, signaling that many are dying from a lack of food.
CRS has a team on the ground in eastern Kenya at a sprawling refugee camp that sees some 1,300 people arriving each day from drought-stricken Somalia. By working through that region’s bishop and church partners, CRS is reporting that it has been able to get some aid into the stricken areas of Somalia, but more help is needed.
Catholic Charities has donation information including a link to donate online with a credit card on the Diocese of Palm Beach website at www.diocesepb.org Check donations to the CRS East Africa Emergency Fund are also being accepted. Checks should be made out to Catholic Relief Services and mailed to:
