Matt Glaeser Named NASL Defensive Player of the Week

By: Pedro Heizer

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.Matt Glaeser has been the defensive anchor of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers lately. The Strikers are on a six-game unbeaten streak and Glaeser is a big part of it. So, it comes to no surprise that the NASL named the Fort Lauderdale Strikers goalkeeper Defensive Player of the Week.

In Saturday night’s matchup versus the Puerto Rico Islanders, Glaeser made five saves and help the Islanders to one goal and hleped the Strikers secure one point in the standings.

Head Coach Daryl Shore had nothing but praises for Glacier, “This honor is a show of the form Matt has been in over the last few weeks. He has been a consistent factor in our current six game unbeaten streak, and if he keeps performing at this level we will continue to create opportunities to move this team forward”.

Glaeser leads the NASL in goals against average (0.57) and has four shutouts this season (fourth-best in the league).

Glaeser is the second member of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers to receive Defensive Player of the Week honors this season, (Aaron Hohlbein won the award just two weeks ago).
