Second Annual “Fine Wines and Canines” event to benefit PROPEL

The Second Annual “Fine Wines and Canines” event to benefit PROPEL (People Reaching Out to Provide Education and Leadership) was held at the Monument Piazza at Royal Palm Place on April 14, 2011. Over 200 people attended, and over $12,000 was raised for this local charity.

Guests who attended the event sampled fine cuisine from top area restaurants including:

Capri Ristorante, Casimir Bistro, Cuisine by Silvia, Jake’s Stone Crab, La Stella’s, Maxies, Piccolino’s, Pickles Restaurant & Deli, Rosario’s Ristorante, Sapori Ristorante, Saquella Caffe, Shamata Mediterranean Restaurant and Speranza Wood Fired Pizza & Italian Restaurant.

Strategic Importers, Inc. was the premier wine sponsor for the evening; on hand with the award-winning wines were Alejandro Ferrari and The Rustic Cellar.  The evening’s event featured wines from around the globe including CA:Arroba Winery, C G Di Arie, Christine’s Wines, Robledo Family Winery, and Murphy Vineyards; WA: Vin du Lac Winery; OH:Ferrante Winery, Italy: Conte Marani, Pometti Winery, Tenuta di Rocca de Giorgi Winery; Spain: Lagar de Bouza Winery, Verdeal Winery, Gil Luna Winery and Argentina: Lujan de Cuyo.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Angel Curras and The Sheffield Brothers.

Pet-friendly supporters were also on hand including Club Bow Wow, Golden Retrievals, Mizner Park Veterinarian, Nanette Gordon Pet Sitter, The Dog Training Clinic, Dee’s Sanctuary Dog Grooming & Spa, Rosa Dog Grooming, Activa Home Care, Boca Raton Ink & Toner, Chaos Bakery, David Lerner Associates, Douglas Rudman and Duke Pest Control.  Pet owners had the opportunity to enter their dogs in a number of contests: Cutest Dog, Friendliest Dog, Best Costume, Mr. Congeniality, Miss Congeniality and Longest Tail. Among the winners were Remington, aka Remi, a beautiful Golden Retriever who was named “Best in Show”, and “Judges Choice”. The judges were City Council member Constance Scott and Dorothy Dalton, an internationally certified judge who is one of the judges at the Westminster Dog Show.

The BIG auction item was “Sheriff For A Day” with Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.  This included the winner having access to special units within the Sheriff’s office, ride with the Marine Patrol, ride in Sheriff’s helicopter, meeting members of the SWAT team, canine unit demonstrations, riding in a patrol car and, in general, spending a day with the Sheriff.
