Abrams, other commissions meet with Scott about beach erosion

On April 6, County Commissioner Steven Abrams joined Governor Rick Scott, fellow Palm Beach County commissioners and other officials on a tour of area beaches to discuss the county’s beach erosion problems.

The tour included the beach area in Lantana where the shoreline has been severely reduced by erosion. There were also stops on Palm Beach and Singer Island, which have also been experiencing ongoing erosions problems.

“I urged Governor Scott to work with us in protecting our beaches, since they are one of the main reasons why Palm Beach County is a world-renowned destination for attracting tourists, new businesses and residents,” said Abrams.

Residents and business owners were also on hand to provide the governor with some insight on the challenges as a result of the ongoing erosion problems.

Commissioner Abrams’ district encompasses 22 miles of southern Palm Beach County coastline.  “The state’s ongoing participation in funding and permitting beach renourishment projects is critical to protecting our coastal communities, preserving our tax base, and serving the beach-going public,” he said.
