THE FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS BOCA 2011 TAPS WORLD-CLASS BOCA RATON SYMPHONIA AS ITS OFFICIAL ORCHESTRA

BOCA RATON, FL (Feburary 2, 2011)—Because of its strong acceptance, appeal and national recognition as an exceptional symphonic orchestra, the Festival of the Arts Boca 2011 has selected the Boca Raton Symphonia as the official orchestra of the Festival’s fifth annual event to be held at the Count de Hoernle Amphitheater, March 4-12, 2011.

The Boca Raton Symphonia will perform the musical score for the Festival’s presentation of the Wizard of Oz, one of the most beloved films of all time, on Friday, March 11th at 7:30 p.m. The program will be produced by John Goberman, noted for his Emmy Award winning productions of Live from Lincoln Center and creator of A Symphonic Night at the Movies. He will also conduct the orchestra.

Maestro Constantine Kistopolous will conduct the Boca Raton Symphonia the next evening for the Festival’s “A Night at the Opera” program on Saturday, March 12th at 7:30 p.m., headlined by 10-year-old Jackie Evancho, the crossover soprano sensation who was discovered on America’s Got Talent TV Show. Evancho, who recently released her Syco/Columbia Records CD/DVD debut, “O Holy Night”, will appear with Young Stars of the Metropolitan Opera: Katie Van Kooten (soprano), Jennifer Holloway (mezzo soprano), Adam Diegel ( tenor) and Michael Todd Simpson (baritone).

Pomeranz, president of the Boca Raton Symphonia.  Founded in 2004 by a group of noted musicians and dedicated music lovers, philanthropists and others devoted to advancing classical music in South Florida, the Boca Raton Symphonia is now in its sixth successful year, playing to capacity audiences.

The symphonic orchestra performs and makes accessible classical music through concert performances and educational outreach programs featuring nationally and internationally acclaimed conductors and soloists.  Its current 2010-2011season’s Connoisseur Concert Series  features renowned Principal Conductor
Philippe Entremont and Guest Conductors Gunther Schuller and David Commanday and performances by Itzhak Perlman protégé and cello soloist Sujin Lee, mezzo soprano soloist Daniela Mack, violin soloist Ludwig Mueller, cello soloist Christophe Pantillon, and piano soloist Soyeon Lee. While based in South Florida, the orchestra members that make up the Boca Raton Symphonia have performed with such conductors as Leonard Bernstein and Seiji Ozawa and orchestras worldwide, including Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, IRIS Orchestra, and  Santa Fe Opera.
