Jana Hugon’s treatment of degenerative brain disease going well, her father says

BOCA RATON – The Boca Raton Tribune has received some wonderful news about the use of adult stem cells to reverse Jana Hugon’s degenerative brain disease.

Her father, Brian, notified the paper that on “Monday, they did the lumbar puncture. Normally, they hope for 2 million stem cells to be harvested from the bone marrow of varying degrees of viability. They got 5 million from Jana’s bone marrow and they were all viable. The doctor decided to do two treatments: the lumbar puncture and an intravenous injection as well to use all of the stem cells harvested.”

“We got a double dose!!!” said Brian.

Jana Hugon and her parents, Brian and Daisy, left Jan. 21 for Germany where their 28-year-old daughter can be treated for the nearly lifelong brain condition that has left her legs paralyzed, limited the use of her arms and caused her to speak and swallow with difficulty.

She is receiving treatment at The XCell-Center, a private clinic group and institute for regenerative medicine located in Düsseldorf and Cologne, Germany. She was admitted to the center in Cologne.

Initially, Brian said, “The schedule was changed due to a number of factors. We did the bone marrow extraction when we arrived on Saturday.”

He said that Jana will have “several days of rest and then a re-examination at the hospital before we return.”

Jana’s father said the family is expected back in Florida on Jan. 31.
