South Palm Beach County Synagogues, Federation and JCC Unite to Observe Global Day of Jewish Learning on November 7

On Sunday, November 7th, Jewish communities from all around the world will be participating in the Global Day of Jewish Learning. The day celebrates the completion of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz’s audacious quest to translate the Talmud from the original Aramaic and ancient Hebrew into Modern Hebrew and English for 45 years, since 1965!

To date, 166 communities around the world, including South Palm Beach, have registered to participate in this historic event. All are invited to “Connect. Learn. Belong. Take a Step Ahead” through these opportunities.

Steven Schauder, Director of Jewish Education, Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County

The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County’s Department of Jewish Education, under the direction of Steven Schauder, has coordinated a variety of local observances for November 7.

A uniquely unifying endeavor, the global effort counts among its supporting partners the governing bodies, leadership, and ordaining institutions of the Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox movements of Judaism – and synagogues within all of these movements are participating South Palm Beach County’s coordinated local effort. Among the local events are new collaborations between the Adolph and Rose Levis JCC and B’nai Torah Congregation; and between Congregation Shaarei Kodesh in Boca Raton and Temple Emeth in Delray Beach.

The JCC/B’nai Torah event will feature Rabbi Steinsaltz in a live broadcast from Jerusalem, as he marks the completion of his monumental Talmud commentary translation.  Available for broadcast worldwide, this event will celebrate Rabbi Steinsaltz’s work and unite the widespread audiences.

“As the ‘people of the book,” it’s wonderful that so many of our synagogues and our JCC feel so passionately about celebrating the beauty of Jewish learning through this Global Day Program,” said Schauder. “The diversity of these local programs reflect the exciting diversity that comprises our Jewish community in South Palm Beach County.”
