Retired PBSO major and former public information officer

BOYNTON BEACH — Retired Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Officer, Major Robert Ferrell Sr., passed away Aug. 1 at Pinecrest Rehabilitation Hospital, Delray Beach.

Major Ferrell began his career with PBSO in December 1987.  He served as the public information officer from December 1987 to December 1996.  After working as public information officer for 10 years, he continued as a lieutenant and captain in various units throughout the agency.  He retired as a major in October 2007.

Prior to his tenure at PBSO, he worked for the Boynton Beach Police Department, beginning his career as a patrolman and working his way up to lieutenant.  He was known in the Boynton Beach community as “Boynton Bob.”

A showing for the late major will be held Wednesday, August 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Boynton Memorial Chapel, 800 W. Boynton Beach Blvd, Boynton Beach.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 5 at 1 p.m. at the Boynton Memorial Chapel.  Burial will follow at South Florida National Cemetery6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth.
