Celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month in Boca Raton !

The City of Boca Raton Recreation Services is proud to announce July as National Parks and Recreation Month and invites the public to enjoy what the City has to offer at any city park or facility by taking part in a favorite sport, visiting the outdoors, spending time with family and friends, or just relaxing at the  beach.  We are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for our city residents through recreation programming, leisure activities and conservation efforts.   For a list of parks and to find out more about the vast number of recreational opportunities, click on Recreation Services on the city’s website at www.myboca.us or call (561) 393-7806.

The newest issue of the RECREATOR, a publication of the Boca Raton Recreation Services Department,  lists a wide assortment of  programs and activities offered free of charge throughout the summer months, including many special events (July’s Fabulous 4th) and summertime concerts.  Visit the Children’s Science Explorium and ride the carousel at Sugar Sand Park.  Climb the tower and overlook the ocean and Intracoastal Waterway at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center…..and be sure to stay around until feeding time for the sea tank critters at 2:30 pm.

Although July may officially be designated “Parks and Recreation Month” throughout the country; why not make every month “Parks and Recreation Month” for you and your family. Pick up the new issue of the RECREATOR at any of the City of Boca Raton community centers for some great ideas !

Boca Raton’s Recreation Services Department, one of the City’s largest departments, delivers wholesome family and individual leisure and recreation programs, special events and services to residents. Over the years, Recreation Services has built a solid reputation for providing quality customer service through each of its four major divisions: Library, Parks, Recreation, and Golf.

The Library Division operates both the Downtown Library and the Spanish River Library and Community Center. You’ll find first-rate library services and resources for residents of all ages at each location. The Spanish River Library & Community Center has a number of rental rooms available for meetings, parties, and weddings, as well as a café and gift shop.

The Parks Division cares for a variety of park areas and facilities, as well as environmentally sensitive land. Park patrols and landscape crews alike work to provide and maintain safe, usable and attractive passive and active recreation and playground areas for all age groups within walking distance of neighborhoods.

From youth sports to a variety of adult classes, the Recreation Division encourages activities that provide each individual the opportunity to enjoy physical exercise, socialization, competition, learning, intellectual stimulation and family togetherness. Take a look at The Recreator to see the wide range of offerings available at the City’s parks and community centers. This comprehensive guide, published three times a year, is available at the City’s community centers, at City Hall and is published online.

Last but not least, the Golf Division is responsible for operating three excellent golf courses.  Excellent championship and executive courses are located just west of the Florida Turnpike.  The courses also offer a full-service Pro Shop, Driving Range, Putting and Chipping Greens, and Practice Sand Bunker. The second executive course, located at Red Reef Park, provides breathtaking views of the Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean.

Recreation Services makes sure that Boca Raton continues to be the “City Within a Park!”
