Boca fire crews extinguish clothes dryer blaze at spa

BOCA RATON – Boca Raton firefighters responded about 9:50 p.m. July 9 to a possible structure fire at the Maui Spa at 2100 NW Second Avenue, said Public Information Officer Frank Correggio.

When firefighters arrived, he said, they used special tools to force open the stairwell door and make their way to the second floor where they encountered light smoke and water flowing from the automatic sprinkler system.

Crews located the fire inside a clothes dryer and quickly extinguished the burning towels. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.  Fire investigators estimate the damage at $5,000.
