The Florida Panthers Retire Roberto Luongo’s Number

One of the best hockey players that the Florida Panthers has ever seen, Roberto Luongo, retired back in June and will now be honored through the retirement of his jersey on March 7, 2020.

The retirement ceremony will be held in a game against Luongo’s hometown team, the Montreal Canadiens.

Luongo will be the first Panthers player to have his jersey retired along with the only other franchise numbers retired being Wayne Huizenga, creator and founder of the Panthers, and No. 93 the team’s first president Bill Torrey.

Luongo played 19 seasons in the NHL while also ranking third in all-time NHL wins with 489 career victories, following behind Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy.

Hall of Famer Martine Brodeur, was the only other goalie to play in more games than Luongos 1,044 games.

Luongo plans to remain living in Parkland with his family after his retirement and will always go down in Panther’s hockey history.
