Festival of the Arts BOCA kids off Friday with ‘Future Stars’ competition

BOCA RATON –The 2010 edition of “Festival of the Arts BOCA” kicks off Friday at 7 p.m. with the 7th annual “Future Stars Performing Arts Competition Showcase.”

 

More than 30 acts and 150 young stars will take to the stage at the Count Adolph de Hoernle Amphitheater at Boca’s Mizner Park to open the festival whose theme this year is “From Russia with Love.”  The event begins at 7 sharp, but doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Presented by The Rotary Club of Boca Raton, the event is dedicated to changing lives and building futures in conjunction with Flossy Keesely, HSBC Bank, Penn-Florida Companies, Miami Systems, Inc. General Contractors, and other community partners.

 

The performers, all from Broward and Palm Beach counties, will compete in vocal and dance on stage to become “Future Stars.”  The program’s masters of ceremonies will be Rotarians, Neil Saffer with former Future Star winner and Vanderbilt University student Natalie Taylor for Act 1 and a sister of a former Future Stars Contestant Chantel Romero for Act 2.

 

Among participants are high school vocalists, The Beach Ride Acapella Group, SR Splash Show Choir, Rain Down BRAG, Haley Crowell, Sean Edwards, Shine, Esme Hurlburt, Rachel Squire, Katie Northrop, Georgie Sackler, Kendra Fulmer Lila Stallone, Stefanie Anamuro, Samantha Behrman, Melanie Sierra and Sara Grant.

 

Also performing will be: middle school vocalists Elizabeth Sider, Maggie Wilkinson, Rebecca Ashton, Erin Harley, Elizabeth Schwartz, Kimmy Caruso and Kaytie Scott; dance soloists Sidney Mills. Alex Anderson, Jillian Medero, Rachel Squire, Ali Castro and Alex Cottone; dance groups Magica & Melodia, What A Girls Gotta Do, U Better Work, The Chairman’s Waltz, Passion and special feature performances Dance Group; Under the Big Top and a solo vocal by  by Natalie Taylor

 

Schools represented are: : Saint Andrews, BAK Middle School of the Arts, Spanish River High School, Pine Crest, Boca Christian, Dreyfoos School of the Arts, That’s Dancing, West Boca High School Coral Glades High School, PerfEdge 2, Falcon Cove Middle, Seminole Ridge, PB Central and A.D. Henderson.

 

Serving as judges are Susan H. Fulks, Janet Mathie, Jennifer Mathie, Anne Polajenko, David Ruttenberg, and from Sunny 104.3 radio, Michelle Visage.
