BOCA RATON – A Christmas Eve fire caused damage to a
Boca Raton home severe enough to force the family to find other
accommodations, said Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Frank
Correggio
Damage was estimated at about $100,000. The cause remains
unknown and is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal.
About 5:20 p.m., Correggio said, Boca Raton firefighters responded
to a report of a structure fire at 818 NW 7 Street. He said family
members were home and smelled smoke coming from the garage.
When they opened the door they noticed the fire. They shut the door
and immediately exited the home, running to the home of a neighbor
who called 9-1-1.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy smoke and intense
flames coming from the garage area. Crews attacked the fire,
brought it under control and extinguished it.
Correggio said fire extended into the ceiling above the garage where
there was also significant damage. The family was not able to return
to the home that evening.
