Veterans Expo set for Oct. 30

Expo to focus on jobs, benefits and networking; hosted by PBSC and former state Sen. Maria Sachs

Boca Raton, FL – Veterans, military service members and their families will be able to advance their life and career goals at the South Florida Veterans Expo on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2-4 p.m. at the South County Civic Center, 16700 Jog Road in Delray Beach. The event is free and open to the public.

Featuring more than 30 exhibitors, including employers, nonprofit organizations and government agencies, the expo will be hosted by Palm Beach State College and former state Sen. Maria Sachs, a champion of veterans. Attendees are asked to RSVP online at www.palmbeachstate.edu/VeteransServices/Veterans-Expo.

Exhibitors at the South Florida Veterans Expo will include 211 Palm Beach, Academy Medical, CareerSource Palm Beach County, Connected Warriors, Coral Shores Behavioral Health, Florida Department of Veterans Affairs, Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County, Johnson & Johnson, McDonald’s Tri-County Group, Palm Beach County Gold Star Families, Paws 4 Liberty, PNC Bank, Ross Mixers, Seal Van Lines, Siegel Law Group, Tripp Electric Motors, VA Veterans Center, Wells Fargo, West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, Wounded Veterans Relief Fund, the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, Marine Corps and Navy, and more.

“Palm Beach State College is proud to host an event that supports our veterans,” said PBSC President Ava L. Parker, J.D. “It is often difficult to navigate the system, so there certainly is value in bringing all services together to cut down on time, provide immediate assistance, and learn about career paths, which all help to create a greater likelihood of success.”

Florida is home to the third largest veterans population in the country, and most of them live in South Florida.

Last November, Palm Beach State College held a grand opening ceremony for its new Veterans Success Center on the Lake Worth campus. Sachs played a key role by sponsoring the $800,000 one-time appropriation from the Florida Legislature in 2016, which made the center a reality.

“We owe so much to veterans that we can never fully repay them, but what we can do is give them an opportunity to be part of the fabric of South Florida,” Sachs said. “Many veterans come to me looking for help, so I spoke with Palm Beach State College about putting together an event and opening it up to the community. Of course, one of the greatest benefits for veterans lies in the GI Bill, which provides for education, and no place exemplifies that better than Palm Beach State.”
