FAU University Galleries Presents Family Art Day

Boca Raton, FL – The University Galleries in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University will present “Family Art Day” in the Schmidt Center Gallery and Ritter Art Gallery on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The event is designed for children ages 5 to 12 and their adult family members. The event is free and open to the public.

Children and their families will have the opportunity to discover and engage with artworks created by more than 30 FAU faculty members who simultaneously continue their practice as professional artists. This biennial exhibition features drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, photography and digital media. The faculty art in both galleries contains a variety of themes including, science, technology, the body, visual perception and socio-political perspectives.

“Family Art Day” will include tours of FAU’s Department of Visual Art and Art History’s studio art facilities, hands-on art activities, a scavenger hunt with giveaway prize and a sketching tour.

The University Galleries exhibition and education programs are supported in part by the Isadore and Kelly Friedman University Galleries Fund, the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, the Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs and Florida Council on the Arts, and the R.A. Ritter Foundation. Education programs are made possible by the Kaye Endowment for Arts Integration and the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

“Family Art Day” and the “Biennial Faculty Exhibition” are produced in collaboration with FAU’s Department of Visual Arts and Art History. This is the twelfth iteration of this exhibition and furthers the University Galleries mission to promote the complex world of the arts and the professional artistic practices at FAU.
