Parking in Fort Lauderdale Will be More Expensive Next Year

City commissioners announce that visitors of Fort Lauderdale will be required to pay no matter where they park, starting some time next year.

The plan consists of nonresidents paying up to $4 an hour to park in city spaces on the beach, $3 an hour for downtown and $2 an hour everywhere else in the city.

Mayor Dean Trantalis see’s this as harmful, discouraging people to visit a city known by many tourists.

Commissioners recommend supporting a rate of $2.50 an hour for nonresidents on the barrier of the island and downtown and $1.50 an hour for other areas of the city.

But it is important to note that current prices range from .$50 to $2 an hour on the barrier island and $1 to $1.75 an hour downtown with $.50 to $1.25 an hour in all other parts of the city.

With this price increase, residents of Fort Lauderdale would be required to pay $1.50 an hour for beach and downtown areas and $1 an hour for other sections of the city.

The city resident beach parking permit that is now $26 a year will also possibly see an increase of up to $75, according to Sun Sentinel.
