New Tropical Depression to Possibly Form into Hurricane Imelda

As hurricane season in Florida continues in full force, the National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on a new system.

The system is predicted to form into Tropical Storm Imelda around Tuesday and could be a hurricane by Friday.

The National Hurricane Center tracks the storm as traveling northwest above the Caribbean Sea toward the Bahamas.

With the path of a hurricane, anything can happen and it is still too soon to estimate exactly where Imelda’s cone will fall.

According to Sun Sentinel, some spaghetti models are predicting the path to steer towards Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. But some see it as shifting north into the open Atlantic, away from land.

Imelda may be expected to reach the islands in the northeastern Caribbean on Thursday or Friday night.

The depression was measured at 12 mph, but is expected to intensely speed up over the next couple of days.

It is still too early to determine whether Imelda will pose a threat to Florida, but we should still continue keeping an eye on the system.
