Tropical Storm Chantal

The third storm of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season has been officially named, Chantal.

The formation of tropical storm Chantal occurred late Tuesday in the North Atlantic, emerging from an earlier weather system over north Florida and off the coast of North Carolina and Virginia.

Chantal was found 445 miles south of Cape Race, Newfoundland at 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Chantal’s maximum winds at 40 mph, were down 5 mph since the storm was formed and was moving east 22 mph.

According to Sun Sentinel, the cooler temperatures approaching could mean Chantal is expected to weaken into a tropical depression within the next couple of days.

The storm does not pose a significant threat to the U.S. but is going to be producing showers and thunderstorms over the central and northwestern parts of the islands.
