Another successful Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce Festival Day event for the benefit of ChildNet, Co-chaired by Roxanna Scaffidi and Pamela Weinroth and BRCFD Chair Jon Sahn.

ChildNet Executive Director, Larry Rein, thanked those in attendance for supporting the event and, in turn, supporting ChildNet.

Special thanks to Emily Lawless, Joe and Rosie Martin (Allegiance Home Health & Rehab); Kristen and Scott Zankl (EXCELL Auto Group); Helene and Lewis Stahl (DxWebb); Burt Rapoport (Rappoport Restaurants); Ahnich Khalid (Maggiano’s Little Italy); Roxana Scaffidi (Florida Accounting & Advisers); and, of course the 100 or so people who came out to enjoy the FUNdraising.

Open your Heart to ChildNet: Children in Broward and Palm Beach Counties have suffered abuse, neglect, and abandonment, and hundreds need loving foster homes. What hurts these kids today is that they feel forgotten by their community. But you can answer a child’s wish for a loving foster home and provide a healing place of refuge. The need is real, urgent, and local.

7th Annual BCFD Margarita Monday, hosted by Rocco’s Tacos 🌮 was the place to be as over 250 attendees met, mingled, bid and sipped libations on a beautiful Monday night in Boca Raton.

Kudos to Sally Berenzweig, Cherie Benjoseph and their posse of volunteers for pulling off another great FUNdraising event benefiting the great work of KidSafe Foundation.

Karyn Turk, Melissa Schwartz and Pamela Weinroth

The KidSafe Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization began specifically to protect children from child sexual abuse, bullying and internet exploitation. Since 2009, KidSafe has provided comprehensive prevention education programs to children, parents, educators, and professionals.

Cofounders, Sally Berenzweig and Cherie Benjoseph, utilized their extensive backgrounds as child safety experts, mental health professionals, educators, authors, public speakers, and moms with over 50 years of combined experience to develop effective prevention education programs.

The KidSafe curriculum focuses on awareness, identification, protocols for reporting abuse, and clear strategies for prevention. KidSafe programs, educational materials, tips, online adult training and their Safe and Smart book series all help break down difficult topics in a fun, age appropriate manner and empowers children and their guardians with tools, language and skills they need to stay safe.

Boca Raton Art Museum Members Midsummer “Cosmos” Party, part of Boca Chamber Festival Days, was held on Tuesday evening.

We celebrated the exhibition opening of Carol Prusa: Dark Light with live DJ, light bites, and libations.

Robert Weinroth and Jody Grass

Carol Prusa’s recent sculptures and drawings provide a reflection on the subject of cosmology and deep space in the form of light-speckled domes, 3D glowing orbs, and silverpoint drawings.

In addition, the museum displayed local artist Michael Gora’s: Memory and the Hands of Time.

Pat and Rick Howard

The show is a study of gesture and storytelling through photographs of individuals in prayer, allegiance, building sand castles and playing dominoes.

The Boca Raton Museum of Art is dedicated to excellence in all its endeavors, through its collections, exhibitions, and educational opportunities. The Museum values cultural, artistic, and intellectual diversity and accommodates a wide range of experiences and learning styles. It welcomes new and broader constituencies, encouraging a heightened public understanding and appreciation of the visual world.

Don’t miss Free Museum admission in August. For the remainder of the month of August, the Museum is open to the public free of charge courtesy of PNC Bank. Come out and enjoy the cultural center of downtown Boca Raton!

Boca Chamber Festival Days continued on Friday at the Marriott Hotel with Battle of the Bartenders.

The event was another great FUNdraising opportunity for Debbie Ellman and Donna Biase co-founders of Best Foot Forward.

Donna Biase and Debbie Ellman

After researching various agencies and strategies from across the country, the duo had pieced together the basis of an unprecedented program devoted to the education of foster care youth. Debbie and Donna stepped up to the challenge and Best Foot Forward was incorporated in January 2010.

Troy McLellan and Susan Saturday

BFF’s very first student was a senior in high school with a 1.1 GPA. He never took a foreign language class or a math course above Geometry. If this student had access to Best Foot Forward’s resources prior to his senior year, would he have been able to attend his dream school, FAMU? Debbie and Donna soon opened the program to 9th-grade students to help provide a stronger academic foundation. This worked for a while, but they noticed another concerning trend –– from note taking to test taking, most students lacked the basic skills to succeed.

Debbie and Donna then decided to lower the entrance level to middle school to help kids develop this skill set before it was too late.

After a few years, a pattern of poor reading comprehension began to emerge, but Debbie and Donna once again discovered a solution. Research revealed 3rd grade was a vital benchmark in a student’s education, so BFF initiated a 3rd-grade program with a strong focus on reading. The success was immediate and soon expanded to include all elementary school grade levels.

Today, the team of two has grown to a devoted group of BFF staff and volunteers, but our mission remains the same. Best Foot Forward believes every child deserves a fighting chance at educational success and we’re here every step of the way!

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT:

2019 Bernie Tilson Memorial EMS Challenge – September 14-15 from 8AM – 5PM

Boca Raton Firefighters have been competing in Advanced Life Support competitions for many years. Teams from Boca Raton Fire Rescue have competed throughout the United States and even Internationally. Boca Raton’s Competition Teams have an excellent history and are known to be one of the top competing teams by all of their competitors.

Eight years ago, Boca Raton Fire Rescue members decided to create their own Advanced Life Support competition. The original purpose of this competition was to get more local fire departments to develop and start new teams. Creating a team within a fire department is a win/win. Team members spend multiple hours studying and practicing. Members also learn something new at every competition. Most members will take what they have learned back to other Paramedics who did not compete in the competition. Since the first competition that Boca Raton put on it has come a long way.

This year teams from all over will compete in multiple Advanced Life Support competitions over the period of 2 days. The competition is September 14 & 15 this year so please cheer on your favorite team and watch the “best of the best” paramedics.
