Today marks the first day of school for many here in Palm Beach County and along with a new school year comes a new set of plans and goals.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting resulted in a great deal of change for the future of safety in schools.

Superintendent Dr. Donald Fennoy mentioned to WPTV that, “obviously everything happening in our country and everything we’ve experienced here in South Florida, that has been our priority all summer. (We are) really pushing to make sure our schools are safe — both things that people can physically see and those they can’t see.”

The main goal for children in today’s society is a positive school experience where they can feel safe and have fun.

There will also be a great deal of emphasis on a student’s mental health with the assistance of a qualified mental health professional at every school campus.

Parents should provide their children’s school with current and correct contact information and should monitor their child’s social media accounts in order to ensure there is nothing wrong.

Fennoy also states that he would like to inform children on post-secondary education options to prepare them for the constantly changing workforce.
