WeLoveU Foundation Volunteers Hosts Worldwide Blood Drives to Address Global Blood Shortages

Local WeLoveU Chapters Partner with OneBlood to Host Non-Remunerated Blood Drive in Florida

Boca Raton, FL —The International WeLoveU Foundation hosted a blood drive in partnership with OneBlood as part of a global initiative to reduce blood shortages. 168 volunteers participated and successfully donated 120 pints of blood, which can save up to 360 lives. According to the World Health Organization’s stats, non-remunerated blood donors—who donate freely without receiving payment—are proven to donate the healthiest blood. This effort is part of WeLoveU’s 2019 Worldwide One-Two Blood Drive Movement and helps fulfill Sustainable Development Goal #3—Good Health and Well-Being.

“Blood is indispensable for life. One single pint of blood can save up to three lives,” said Clark Rogers, Spokesman of the International WeLoveU Foundation. “Through WeLoveU’s One-Two Blood Drive Movement, we hope to not only educate the public about the alarming demand for blood, but enlighten everyone to take action and save lives through donating blood.”

The International WeLoveU Foundation launched the 2019 Worldwide One-Two Blood Drive Movement on June 14—World Blood Donor’s Day—to raise awareness about the necessity of blood donations and enlighten people’s perception about donating blood. WeLoveU hosted the Save the World Global Forum from May 22 until May 24 in preparation of the campaign launch. Speakers from Ecuador, Chile, Bangladesh, and Iraq, including keynote speaker Peter Dawkins, Chief of United Nations Web Services, discussed ways to ease worldwide blood supply shortages. Over the next two months, WeLoveU will be hosting blood drives around the world. The Foundation has been hosting blood drives since 2004. By December 2018, more than 37,000 WeLoveU volunteers and citizens participated in 160 blood drives held in 41 countries.

Through the areas of social, senior and child welfare, disaster relief and environmental cleanups, the Chairwoman’s example of giving love has spread from the east to the west and planted itself in more than 50 countries to inspire a healthy and hopeful future.
