Sam Forrest of Florida Power & Light Company named recipient of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s National Leadership Award

Sam Forrest

Boca Raton, FL – Each year, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) recognizes and celebrates the outstanding contributions of individuals, corporations, and organizations for their achievements in helping position LLS as the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancers through its National Recognition & Awards Program. The Palm Beach-Treasure Coast Chapter of LLS has announced Sam Forrest, chairman of the chapter’s Board of Trustees, as the recipient of the 2019 National Leadership Award.

“I am so honored to be the recipient of this year’s National Leadership Award and work hand-in-hand with LLS to take steps to end cancer. This organization funds cutting-edge research for treatment and cures while providing support services to patients and their families during their cancer journey,” said Forrest. “Blood cancers have affected some of those closest to me, including my mother, who is a long-time survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I think it’s very important, in everything you do, to try to make an impact. LLS and FPL have partnered to make that impact here in the community where we live, work and raise our families.”

The National Leadership Award honors an organization or individual who has provided expertise and guidance that has enabled the chapter to achieve new levels of success. Forrest, vice president of energy marketing and trading at Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), became involved with LLS when he was asked by one of his co-workers who served on the LLS Board to chair the West Palm Beach Light The Night event. Forrest subsequently chaired the walk for three years, assumed the chairmanship of the Board of Trustees and has served as a spokesperson for LLS at national events. Forrest joined the fight against blood cancers to honor his co-worker who was battling AML, and unfortunately lost his battle a year later, and he is committed to finding a cure.

“Sam Forrest continues to make a significant impact while selflessly dedicating his time and talent to achieve our mission, to cure blood cancer and improve the quality of life of patients and their families,” said Pam Payne, Palm Beach-Treasure Coast Chapter executive director. “Our organization would not exist without volunteers like Sam who finds countless ways to engage himself and others. Because of his efforts, he is helping to change the landscape of cancer.”
