South Palm Beach County Social Scene

By Pamela J Weinroth

This weeks, we’ve been traveling so the recap of events is being skipped. However, I wanted to make sure you are marking your calendar for summer highlights.

As many of our residents know, the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce has been hosts the Boca Chamber Festival Days every August.

Boca Chamber Festival Days is a true example of community partnership!

It’s the Chamber’s outreach to the non-profit community. Non-profit Chamber Members join forces with for-profit Chamber Members to hold a fun-filled event during the month of August!

The goal is to raise awareness and funds for the non-profit member’s philanthropic efforts. All month long, residents of South Palm Beach County will travel from event to event, participating in everything that is great about Boca Raton – from the smaller events to the grand!

Jon Sahn, chair Boca Chamber Festival Days and Troy McLellan, President Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber helps to facilitate these events that are created and run by a pairing of non-profit members with for-profit members to raise funds and awareness for the non-profit organizations during their specific Boca Chamber Festival Days event.

Boca Chamber Festival Days events:
• Are planned and run by non-profits
• Are supported by for-profits
• Raise awareness and funds for the non-profits
• Are held throughout the month of August at various locations in the greater Boca Raton area
• Offer a unique and fun advertising and philanthropic opportunity to for-profits — at a fraction of the usual cost!

Boca Chamber Festival Days is facilitated and marketed by the Boca Chamber.

The lead off event comes on August 1st when the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl will hold its annual Idol Contest.

The 2019 Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl organizers and presenting sponsor Marshall Grant, PLLC have opened its call for audition submissions for the third annual quest to find the top talent to perform the National Anthem at the 2019 bowl game. Along with Bowl community partners Roger Dean Stadium and Spirit of Giving, organizers invite and encourage vocalists and instrumentalists, amateurs and professionals, individuals and groups from teens through seniors to upload their “Boca Raton Bowl Idol” audition demo submissions on the bowl game’s official website, www.CheribundiBocaRatonBowl.com.

The winner will get the opportunity to perform the National Anthem at the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl during opening ceremonies at FAU Stadium prior to the game being televised nationally and receive 10 game tickets for family and friends with sideline access during the performance.

“Each year the talent competition increases in submission numbers, range of performances as well as in level of talent,” shared Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl Executive Director Doug Mosley who reported that this year’s Bowl game will kick off in the Florida sunshine on a new date, time and television network: Saturday afternoon, December 21 at 3:30 p.m. at FAU Stadium and televised live by ABC. “We look forward to expanding and ‘cheering on’ this year’s home-grown talent field and sharing their personal stories with Bowl fans.”

Audition Submission Entry and Public Voting are Easy

Those interested in sharing their talent (vocal or instrumental) must upload an audition demo video, complete the official online entry form and provide a hi-res color headshot between now and Tuesday, June 25 at 11:59 p.m. On Monday, July 8 selected entries will be featured on the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl website for public voting for their favorite performer. The “Bowl Idol poll” will close on Sunday, July 21, at 11:59 p.m.

Open-to-the-Public Finalist Night, August 1, Benefits Spirit of Giving

The top eight competitors determined by public voting will be invited to compete live at the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl Idol Presented by Marshall Grant, PLLC event to be held Thursday, August 1 at Boca Raton Innovation Campus (BRIC). A combination of audience votes and judges’ selections will determine three finalists who will perform once more to see who will be chosen as this year’s “Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl Idol.”

To enter, fill out the form at:   www.cheribundibocaratonbowl.com/boca-idol-2019/

On August 5th from 5:30-8PM it’s Boca’s Got Talent at Crazy Uncle Mikes (6450 S Federal Hwy, Boca Raton FL 33487, benefitting the Faulk Center for Counseling.

On August 7th it’s the 8th Annual FondueRaiser, 4:30 to 10PM at the Melting Pot restaurant (5455 N Federal Hwy Boca Raton FL 33432). As in years past, 50 percent of food and drink sales and 100 percent of Ribbon-tini special drink sales benefit Lynn Cancer Institute’s League of Ribbons.

That’s just three of the events being planned for August. Over the next few weeks additional events will be highlighted.
