Boca Raton, FL – Members of the Boca Raton chapter of HaZamir: The International Jewish Teen Choir will come together in New York to perform at the HaZamir Gala Concert at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center, on Sunday afternoon, March 31, at 4 p.m.

Nurit Hirsh, composer of the iconic “Oseh Shalom,” “BaShanah HaBa’ah,” the popular musical, “Salah Shabati,” and more than 1600 other popular songs will receive the Foundation’s Kinor David Award.

HaZamir Alumna Zoe Avery Grossman also will be honored with the Foundation’s first Young Leadership Award. As a participant, Ms. Grossman helped create the HaZamir Teen Leader Program and served as the organization’s first International Teen Leader Chair. Since leaving HaZamir, she has traveled around the U.S. and in Israel to help launch and grow new chapters, and has staffed and provided leadership training at HaZamir retreats.

Over 400 HaZamir singers, including over 100 from Israel, from 29 American and 10 Israeli chapters, will sing choral settings of two of Hirsh’s songs, as well as the world premieres of Cantor Gerald Cohen’s “Pitchu Li” and HaZamir Alumnus Samuel Rosner’s setting of an excerpt from David Ben-Gurion’s historic speech, “Banegev Yibachen,” in a concert showcasing Jewish musical styles from across the globe and throughout history.

The Zamir Choral Foundation, created by Matthew Lazar, promotes choral music as a vehicle to inspire Jewish life, culture, and continuity across generational and denominational lines. The Foundation sponsors HaZamir: The International Jewish Teen Choir, which was founded by Mr. Lazar in 1993, as well as the HaZamir Chamber Choir. Vivian Lazar is the director of HaZamir. Other programs of the foundation are Zamir Noded (for 18 to 30-year-olds), HaZa Prep (for 7th and 8th graders), the annual Zamir Choral Festival, and Irwin and Jean R. Mandell Fund for New Music.

The concert is co-chaired by Rabbi Gerald & Robin Skolnik and Cindy & Jay Worenklein.
