Robert Weinroth ,Bar Hostess, Dave Aronberg

Joined State Attorney Dave Aronberg, honorary chair of a White White West event for the benefit of Horses Healing Hearts.

Horses Healing Hearts helps children who have been affected by a family member with addiction to heal emotionally, build self-esteem, and learn life-coping skills by working with horses.

The only one of its kind in the nation, their program is unique and made strong by the commitment of their volunteers, host barns and magnificence of the horses that help these vulnerable kids open their hearts to trust again. If you would like to open up a foundation like this, then you must consider what types of animals you would like to interact with the kids. You would also need to have a large area for them to sleep, like Pole Building Barns.

At HHH prevention sessions, the children are shown they are not alone, their parent’s addiction is not their fault, and it is safe to feel their feelings.

One fourth of the children served by HHH have a parent absent due to incarceration, suicide, over-dose, murder and other substance abuse related deaths.

Marleen Forkas

Marleen Forkas celebrated her 88th birthday on Wednesday, February 27th at the Wick Theater.

We all know that Marilynn A. Wick puts on a great production, but she also knows how to throw a great party. Marilynn orchestrated the celebration with great fun and style. Kudos to Marilynn, the Wick Theater staff and Addison catering for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.  Happy Birthday Marleen!

On Thursday, AVDA celebrated its 12th Annual Heart of a Women Luncheon.  Keynote Speaker was Tarana Burke, Founder of the “Me Too” Movement and Social Justice Activist. #MeToo is not just an overnight hashtag sensation, Tarana has dedicated more than 25 years of her life to social justice and laying the ground word for a movement that was initially created to help young women of color who survived sexual abuse and assault.  The movement now inspires solidarity, amplifies the voices of thousands of victims of sexual abuse, and puts the focus back of survivors. On stage, she provided words of empowerment that enable survivors across all races, genders to know they are not alone.

I celebrated by birthday “a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.”  Symphonia performed John Williams’

Academy Award winning score of Star Wars: A New Hope, during a grand showing of the epic film that started it all. The chemistry between Conductor Constantine Kitsopoulos and the orchestra was outstanding.
