Bowl For Kids’ Sake – A Striking Success!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin Counties held their first annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake event on Saturday, September 8th at CineBowl & Grille in Delray Marketplace.
The event sold out with 64 bowlers in attendance.
Bowl For Kids’ Sake brought in over $7,000 for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin Counties mentoring programs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin Counties was proud to host their first annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake event on Saturday, September 8th at CineBowl & Grille in the Delray Marketplace. There were 64 bowlers in attendance to sell out the 16 lanes in the alley. Proud sponsors were able to attend the event, or donate their lanes for Big Brothers Big Sisters’ program participants to attend. Sponsors included MDG Advertising, NetOne Technologies, JP Morgan Securities, Jacaranda, Gordon & Doner, Haynes Scaffolding & Supply, Physicians Choice Respiratory Services, and Thrivent Action Team. Their support and generosity combined with the individuals participating in the event helped to raise $7,291 for Big Brothers Big Sisters!
Big Brothers Big Sisters celebrated the highest and lowest team scores, the highest and lowest individual scores, and the most spirited team. The JP Morgan Securities team led by Gabriela Pellegrini took home the award for the highest team score, and one of her teammates, Nate Krueger, contributed to their success with his highest individual score of 303 across 2 games! On the other hand, the Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Martin County office, led by Program Manager, Katie Knapfel, rounded out the teams with the lowest team score, and 4-year-old Olivia Knapfel proudly displayed her toilet bowl award for the “best golf score” award. The JP Morgan Securities team led by Portia Culley rightfully earned the title “Most Spirited” with constant cheers, claps, and encouragement for teammates, as well as for the teams around them.
Bowl For Kids’ Sake is a national Big Brothers Big Sisters event that is hosted by affiliates across the country to raise funds for their local mentoring programs. Participants set a fundraising goal and raise money to contribute to that goal leading up to the event. Their efforts culminate at a local bowling alley, where sponsors, teams, individuals, and program participants get to bowl and interact with one another to celebrate the funds and awareness raised for Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentoring programs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin Counties has been serving the children in Martin County since 1986, and expanded services into Palm Beach County in 2010. In 2017, the agency served 548 children across the 2 counties in their 3 mentoring programs. Their mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better forever. Research has shown that after 18 months in a mentoring relationship, children in these programs are less likely to begin using drugs or alcohol, skip school, or use violence to settle a dispute, and they show an increase in confidence in school work and improvement in relationships with family and friends.
