FAU Professor Named “Educator of the Year”

Marianna Colvin, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work within the College for Design and Social Inquiry recently was named the “2018 Social Work Educator of the Year” by The National Association of Social Workers for her outstanding contributions in social work education in the areas of teaching, research and service.

“Being a social work educator is one of the joys of my life,” said Colvin. “I’m so lucky to interact daily with the creative and bold minds of new students entering the profession and am sincerely grateful for this honor.”

As a mixed-methods researcher, Colvin combines network analysis and qualitative methods to examine inter-organizational human service delivery systems related to vulnerable children and families. She approaches child welfare from a community-wide orientation, inclusive of multiple disciplines, and concentrates on interactions across organizations, theories of systems and complexity, and implications for policy and network development.
