Robert’s Community Report: 2/25

There’s a new restaurant in town. Healthy living, according to Andrew Weil, M.D. True Food co-founder, starts at their table where they merge nutrient-rich ingredients with a flavor-forward menu. The True Food Kitchen employs the principles of Dr. Erik’s anti-inflammatory food pyramid. The restaurant believes in selecting and preparing simple and delicious foods to help people achieve and maintain optimal health. Their ingredients are sustainably sourced and responsibly raised so guests can trust their food and the True Food Kitchen.

It was another great night as the the 25th Annual Cowboy Ball was held at Mizner Park AmphitheaterTim Snow certainly knows how the throw a Ho down! Great music, great food, great spirits. A great fundraiser for the George Snow Scholarship Fund.

We saw a new movement born this week.  Students, particularly those from Marjory Stoneman High School,  are fed up with the failure of the government to protect them in light of the mass shooting that took 17 innocent lives. The students are demanding the enactment of common-sense gun violence prevention laws, supported by a vast majority of Americans! The destruction of young lives cannot go on. Thoughts & prayers are not enough – these students are demanding action. Protection – Mental Health Counseling – Background Checks on ALL gun sales!

Here’s a partial list of upcoming Marjory Stoneman HS events:

The 4th Annual Alzheimer’s Luncheon, took  place on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Boca West Country Club, to benefit the Louis & Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center, the Alzheimer’s Association and Alzheimer’s Community Care. This was the first event ever in South Florida that all three of these organizations will combine forces together, united to raise funds and awareness concerning dementia and Alzheimer’s in our community. This year’s Honorees were Marilyn Weinberg (on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association); Mary Barnes (on behalf of Alzheimer’s Community Care); and Terry Fedele (on behalf of the Louis & Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center). Over 1000 business, community and political leaders attended to support finding a cure for this horrific disease that affects so many South Florida residents. Dick Schmidt was  the Keynote Speaker. His time is filled with philanthropic endeavors, which he spearheads with his wife, Barbara, an international bestselling author, in her own right. Dick’s recent novel, Memory Road, is a thriller about a retired senior CIA agent suffering from Alzheimer’s evading the world’s leading intelligence agencies. The book targets the challenges of Alzheimer’s, focusing on one man’s journey to find home. Dick is also the author of The Boy and the Dolphin. Judy Herman, a former “Jeopardy” champion, and an avid puzzle and games enthusiast, hosted cerebral challenges for the audience.
