Congratulations for keeping up with your 2018 New Year’s Resolution. You wanted to exercise a little bit more and to lose a few pounds, and here you are, almost done with your first month. Awesome Job!

You probably feel lighter, healthier, cleaner, and LEANER! You’ve noticed your face is a little thinner and your body a little tighter. You’ve probably noticed your pants getting a little loose on you too! Remember, this is just the beginning of what you set out to accomplish!

“But what else has changed, Alan? You said more than I realize, and I already realize these things happening.”

Well, Let’s take a look!

• Improved Mental Health – Exercise builds chemicals in the brain to better your mood and help you feel more relaxed and focused. The brain, in turn, releases feel-good chemicals called endorphins throughout the body to relieve tension and stress. Exercise can also help reduce anxiety and depression as well as enhancing one’s self-esteem. The best way to relax after a long day might actually be to hit the gym due to all the mental health benefits it can provide. 1 hour of your day is only 4% of it. Have fun and let loose. No one ever regrets getting a good workout in.

• You’ve Built Stronger Bones – Want to decrease your chances of bone diseases like Osteoporosis, arthritis, osteomalacia, and poor spinal hygiene? Try exercising with weights or higher impact sports, or even some light jogging and running will do the trick. But, if it’s been a while… choose a brisk walk instead! Those are some of the best ways in reducing muscle loss and maintaining strength as you age. Each year we could lose muscle mass and functionality, which can lead to injuries and disabilities. “Use it or lose it!” As we age we cannot afford to lose it… so start using it and build a stronger future version of yourself. Stick with your New Year’s Resolution and you in 10 years will love you!

• Your Heart is Stronger – As we continually build strength through the rigorous activity you are strengthening your heart. A strong heart may help reduce or improve blood pressure, cholesterol, energy levels, and basically improve every aspect of your life. Raise your hand if you want a strong heart!

• Cancer is Less Likely Now- Colon, Prostate, Breast, Endometrial, and Kidney Cancer have all been linked to weight gain and obesity. About 1/3 of Cancer-related deaths are due to weight gain and obesity with the Top 2 being Breast and Colon Cancer. A woman who exercises for an average of 150 mins a week has shown to have a 30% lower risk of Breast Cancer than those who do not. As for Colon, there is a 16% lower chance for those who exercise regularly compared to those who do not. Cancer is expensive, inconvenient, and you have the power to reduce your risk. Facts don’t lie. You can start improving your health now.

Whether your New Year’s Resolution stemmed from having an intrinsic or extrinsic motivation, you’re currently enjoying benefits from both sides. Keep on keeping on! Have fun and remember, no one ever regrets getting in better shape! Enjoy these benefits. Keep looking at the gym as a fun place to go, to help better yourself, mentally and physically. Relieve stress, conquer depression, and help fight off poor lifestyle diseases.

If you need any more motivation than you already do, keep in mind that so far in 2018 for those who had Weight Loss and Exercise as their #1 New Year’s Resolution, 46% have already given up and you’re not one of them! Stay strong and remember your Worth and remember your Why!
