Three PBSC Employees Win Bravo Awards
Two faculty and one staff member received Palm Beach State College’s Bravo Award at the annual Employee Recognition Awards Ceremony this morning in the Duncan Theatre on the Lake Worth campus.
Professors Suzanne Duff and Allen Webber and Interim Student Learning Center Manager Wesley Wells were selected from a college wide pool of 23 contenders nominated by their PBSC colleagues for the award.
All nominees shared the distinction of going above and beyond the normal expectations of their jobs and enthusiastically supporting the College through creative contributions and outstanding service. The final selection was made by a committee representing all classifications of employees.
Duff has partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the College Wide Counseling Center to facilitate campus events that encourage students struggling with mental illnesses to seek help. One such event, “Love is Louder,” teaches students about mental health issues and how they can help themselves or others with these issues around the holidays. She also encourages students to participate in “Homeless Bags,” and event that provides care packages to those who don’t have housing or food in Palm Beach County.
Wells and Webber were both nominated for their contributions to the College’s new alma mater. Titled “Hail, Palm Beach State College,” the song was written by Wells and musically composed by Webber. It was sung for the first time by graduates at the fall commencement ceremonies last year. Judges who selected the song say it reflects timeless quality and fits the spirit of a revered, comprehensive state college. The lyrics also weave in the mascot, the College colors and the historical nature of the College.
Wells was also nominated for his creativity and collaboration to enhance the College’s Palm Beach Gardens reading lab, where he has organized book clubs and numerous seminars.
The Bravo Award winners received an engraved star award, a $75 cash prize, and they will have a luncheon with PBSC President Ava L. Parker. Employees eligible to be nominated for the award include full-time faculty and staff, adjuncts and regular part-time staff, after a minimum of six months of employment.
In addition to the Bravo Award recipients and nominees, the ceremony honored 119 employees marking milestones in their length of service at the College, ranging from five to 40 years. Collectively, they represent 1,850 years of employment.
