Junior League of Boca Raton Provides Over 1,000 Diapers to Irma Victims in the Florida Keys

The Junior League of Boca Raton (JLBR) has provided over 1,000 diapers to babies in need in the lower Florida Keys, with more on the way.  Partnering with Caring For the Keys, a grassroots organization of volunteers shuttling supplies to the Keys, JLBR was able to donate diapers directly to victims of Irma being housed in shelters throughout the area.

JLBR currently maintains the only diaper bank in Palm Beach and Broward counties. The JLBR Diaper Bank distributes approximately 140,000 diapers every other month to local nonprofit agencies and helps diaper well over 800 babies per month.  The JLBR Diaper Bank is dependent on donations from the public and diaper drives to maintain supplies.

“It is year-round donations and our commitment to diaper need in our immediate area that allowed us to respond quickly to meet shortages in the areas hit hardest by Irma” said JLBR President Renata Sans de Negri.

Nationally, 1 out of 3 families struggles to afford diapers.  This problem has been exacerbated locally by Hurricane Irma which displaced residents in the Keys and forced many low-income families to purchase hurricane supplies and replace food with funds they had previously allocated for diapers.  In order to continue to meet diaper needs throughout South Florida and the Florida Keys, JLBR is holding a diaper drive open to the public until October 1, 2017.  Diapers can be donated at the Vegso Community Center located at 261 NW 13th Street, Boca Raton, FL 33432.  Those with questions about donations can contact JLBR directly at 561-620-2553  E-Mail: info@jlbr.org
