Gumbo Limbo Extends Trail Hours

By: Gabriel Diaz

With over 200,000 visitors a year, Gumbo Limbo is one of Boca Raton’s most prized spots to visit.

Keeping this in mind, and to help all the guests have ample time at the 20-acre nature center, Gumbo Limbo has recently extended its visiting hours for its famous Boardwalk Trail, Ashley Trail, Butterfly Garden and Sea Turtle Garden. From now on all of these locations will be open from 7 A.M. to Dusk.

In all of the trails, guests can experience the natural beauty of South Florida. One of the great examples is The Ashley Trail. This trail allows guests to walk through nature and look at all the fauna that is native to the area. The Butterfly Garden which is located nearby to the Ashley Trail “attracts many species of butterflies” according to the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center website “including monarch, sulphur, and zebra longwing ”. The zebra longwing butterfly is the state’s official butterfly.

The Boardwalk Trail, being one of the most popular spots in20-acre acre facility, just recently underwent renovation by opening up the eastern side of the boardwalk. The Boardwalk Trail is a ¼ mile long and allows guest “to visit an ecosystem which once flourished throughout Florida” according to the Gumbo Limbo website. Within the Boardwalk Trail one can come across red-bellied woodpeckers, grey foxes, strangles figs, and cabbage palm trees which are Florida’s official trees.

This new renovation means that guests can walk from the Nature Center all the way down to the coveted Red Reef West were guests are allowed to picnic, swim, and snorkel on the designated beach areas.

With the new extension of the trail hours, Gumbo Limbo has given visitors the ability to visit the beautiful facilities and enjoy the natural beauty of Boca Raton for a longer period of time, which allows for more appreciation of one of the city’s most important centers.
