Visit for Less with Airbnb

By: Gabe Diaz

imageAirbnb has just released data that shows the meaningful economic impact of home sharing during major college commencement ceremonies throughout Florida.

Airbnb is a website aimed at lowering the cost of booking rooms for travelers, by allowing tourists to stay in privately owned apartments or houses instead of hotels. The data shows that during graduation time from May 4-5, 203 guests checked in to Airbnb rooms in Boca Raton, there was a five percent spike in guest arrivals to Boca Raton from the previous week, and $78,000 were spent on the booking of the rooms.

“Home sharing provides significant economic value by expanding lodging capacity during commencement weekends for Florida communities that are home to large universities,” policy director of Airbnb Florida Tom Martinelli said.

Being a University of Florida Gator, Martinelli understands the value that Airbnb brings to families as well as the money that home sharing saves families. This money saved could be spent on local businesses such as shops or restaurants, and even if it is not spent, the low prices encourage guests to visit beautiful Boca Raton for an affordable price.

Currently, there is an Airbnb available in Boca Raton in front of the beach, 15 minutes walking distance from Mizner with beach chairs and towels included for $75 per night for three nights. The next best option on the dates from August 7-9, considering that summer graduation for FAU is August 8, is a stay in the Boca Raton Resort for $190 a night. Another option is the Boca Raton Marriott for $100 per night with no beach access, but after all, taking graduation pictures on the beach is one of the best things about graduating from a school in Boca.
