Florida Atlantic University’s David Miranda was named the Conference USA co-hitter of the week after his stellar performances over Florida Gulf Coast University and Florida International University, en route to a 4-0 week. Southern Mississippi’s Leemarcus Boyd was also given the honors.

The redshirt Junior outfielder had a hit in each of the Owls’ wins.

In the sweep of FIU and dismantling of FGCU Eagles, Miranda had seven RBIs, matching a team-best with five runs and a .538 batting average.

Miranda was 3 for 3 against the Eagles in a 13-1 victory and had five RBIs (two-run single and bases clearing three-run double). In one of three wins against FIU, he knotted up the game in the top of the seventh with a solo home run and scored in the ninth to win the game thanks to three wild pitches.

On Saturday he went 2-4. In the second game against FIU, Miranda scored on a walk-off run in the 10th inning, his second of the week. On Sunday’s final game, Miranda hit his 10th home run of the season and also scored on two runs.

In a stretch of four games, Miranda had a .684 on-base percentage, drawing three walks and was hit by two pitches that week.

Miranda went 4-5 while runners were in scoring position, and 4-6 with runners on base. In the defensive end, Miranda has no errors in 11 chances at right field.

Head coach John McCormack said, “David had a great week and was a big reason we went 4-0 for the week.” He also said about David receiving the award, “It is a well-deserved honor.”

In part with Miranda’s incredible week, the Owls entered into Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I poll, ranking No. 28 in the country.

The Owls will head north to play a three-game series versus Southern Miss from May 5-7. It’s sure to be an offensive game, as the Conference USA reigning Co-Hitters of the Week in Miranda and Boyd will face off.
