By: Michael Demyan

ariana grandeA deadly bombing occurred outside Manchester Arena Monday night as Boca Raton native Ariana Grande concluded her concert.

The latest death count is at 22, while many were injured in the attack. Greater Manchester Police suspect that 22-year-old Salman Abedi is the person responsible, but they stress that he has not yet been formally identified.

“The attacker, I can confirm, died at the arena,” Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said in a statement. “We believe the attacker was carrying an improvised explosive device which he detonated causing this atrocity.”

Police are working to determine if the man was working alone, but they are handling the situation as a terrorist incident.

Grande, who was born and grew up in Boca Raton, has suspended her current tour in the wake of the tragedy.

“Broken,” she tweeted during the early morning hours from Manchester, “From the bottom of my heart, I am so so sorry. I don’t have words.”

Her next two concerts were going to be in the United Kingdom as well, starting with one on May 25 in London.

Her manager, Scooter Braun, also released a statement on Twitter.

“Tonight, our hearts are broken,” he said. “Words cannot express our sorrow for the victims and families harmed in this senseless attack.”

According to police, the first of over 240 calls describing an explosion started coming in at 10:33 p.m. and over 400 officers assisted during the aftermath.
