Boca Raton philanthropist Marleen Forkas donated two new buses to The Volen Center’s community coach transit services for seniors in Palm Beach County.

The new vehicles have wraps showing The Volen Center logo with Forkas name on three sides. Each new van has room for 16 seats with two wheelchairs. They were immediately added to a fleet of 38 older vehicles, of which nine have more than 100,000 miles on the odometer, according to the center’s CEO Elizabeth Lugo.

“We are always expanding our fleet and retiring vehicles after seven or eight years and 200,000 miles” said Lugo. “These two new beautiful buses will take people to critical destinations so they can live independently and have quality of life.”

To celebrate, a luncheon and dedication ceremony took place on November 3 where numerous Boca Raton residents were in attendance.

According to the center’s website, the center has been providing rides for seniors 60 and older, for things such as medical appointments, Volen Center programs, adult day care, and grocery stores since 1968.
