5k And 10k Race Planned To Stop Domestic Abuse At Avda’s 17th Annual Race For Hope

AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse) (www.avdaonline.org) will hold its 17th Annual Race for Hope on Saturday, December 3rd from 7:30 -9:00 a.m. at Anchor Park in Delray Beach. The race, which includes a USATF certified 5K and 10K, and is expected to draw over 1,000 runners, walkers, spectators, and volunteers.

Race participants can set up fundraising pages for themselves or for a team. Teams or individuals who raise the most money are presented with awards.  AVDA is also accepting “No Sweat” donations from individuals who wish to donate or fundraise from the comfort of their home.

Festivities will include music and prizes. For the fifth year, The Original Pancake House will sponsor a pancake breakfast for both participants and sponsors.

Liz Quirantes of CBS 12 will serve as the official mistress of ceremonies for the event.

“AVDA provides people in domestic violence situations a safe place to go,” said Scott Miller, Co-Chair of the Race for Hope.

“This race is not only an important fundraiser, but is also an opportunity to let those who need help know where to turn for help,” Jean Magrella, Co-Chair of the Race for Hope said.

Special awards–the “Hometown Hero” awards—will once again be given to the fastest male and female police officer and fastest male and female firefighter in the 5k run. All police officers and firefighters on active duty in Palm Beach County are eligible to compete to be a “Hometown Hero.” Hometown Hero discounts are available with current ID.   Registration fees are waived for police officers and firefighters on active duty registered as a Hometown Hero.

Race Day registration begins at 6:30 am, immediately followed by the 5K and 10K at 7:30 am and Kid’s Dash at 8:30 am. Registration prices range from $10-$30 per person and increase to $10-$35 on Race Day. Race for Hope T-Shirts will be given to the first 500 registrants only.
