Robbers Strike University View Three Times Over The Weekend

By Casey Westfall

The weekend of May 15, three robberies occurred at the University View student apartment complex on NW 5th Avenue.

All three victims were reported to have been leaving parties when they were robbed. In all three cases, the robbers target were the victims phones.

According to the Boca Raton Police Department, the first robbery occurred at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14. A man and a couple of his friends were approached by a group consisting of five men. They asked him if he was interested in buying drugs, and upon declining their offer, the men attacked him and stole his phone.

The second one occurred the same morning at 1:15 a.m., when another man and his group of friends were approached by three men asked if they could borrow his phone to make a call. As soon as he took his phone out of his pocket, one of the men quickly grabbed it and fled. The victim tailed the suspect and upon locating him, offered $500 for the return of his phone. The second he pulled out his wallet, the suspect grabbed it from his hands and took it, as well, police said.

The third robbery occurred at 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, May 15. A man was attacked by a group of five to seven men, and like the two previous cases had his phone stolen.

The suspects in all three cases are still at large, and Boca Raton Police are trying to determine whether or not the three cases are related to each other.

Anyone who might have information that could aid police with their investigation are encouraged to contact Detective Kimsal at (561) 620-6144.
