In January of this year, the Quantum Foundation awarded the Palm Beach County Developmental Disability Interagency Council (PBCDDIC) a third-year renewal on the grant for the Dental Home Initiative for People with Developmental Disabilities.

Over the course of the first two years, the grant helped assist hundreds of adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Palm Beach County through education, preventive care and restorative services.

The Dental Home Initiative’s objective is to establish a system that ensures that individuals with disabilities in Palm Beach County have access to and receive oral care services in a dental home.

“People with developmental and intellectual disabilities often require special accommodations and medical considerations,” says Oral Health Coordinator Sue Correia. “In addition, there are also financial constraints, transportation barriers, and a limited number of dental providers willing to or capable of providing treatment, thus leading to a lack of consistency in care for this vulnerable population.”
