Two Arrested in Armed Robbery at Library Parking Lot

By CRA News Service

BOCA RATON – A Lauderhill man and a teenager are behind bars, accused of robbing three women near the downtown library parking lot, police said on Friday.

Keon Cunnington, 20, and a 17-year-old boy, both of Lauderhill, were charged with armed robbery. The pair is also accused of stealing two hover boards in an earlier robbery in Ocean Ridge.

The robbery victims told police they were walking to their car on Northwest 2nd Avenue from a restaurant shortly after 8 p.m. on Feb. 27 when two young men riding hover boards approached them.

As the women got in their car, one of the suspects, wearing a red hoodie, pointed a gun at one of the women and demanded her purse, police said. The woman did not comply. The suspect then tried to grab the wallet belonging to another woman who was in the rear seat but was unsuccessful, police said.

The second suspect, in a grey shirt, grabbed the black leather backpack of a woman who was in the front passenger seat, police said.

Both suspects then ran, police said.

Two of the women were treated for minor injuries.

While they were investigating the crime, detectives learned of a robbery several hours earlier in Ocean Ridge where the suspects stole two hover boards and left in a Honda, registered to a Lauderhill address.

Investigators also learned that the suspects allegedly used one of the women’s credit card at a Walmart in Delray Beach. They got video surveillance of the suspects using the card in the store, police said.

Investigators went to the Lauderhill address where the car was registered and met with the owner and his 17-year-old son. They were able to link both suspects to the crime and charged them.
