Early Morning Shooting Kills One, Injures Another

By: Casey Westfall

A shooting that occurred early Monday morning at a duplex at NE 28th Street and NE 2nd Avenue left one man dead, and another injured.

The victims were Thang Nguyen, 62, and David Bartolino, 44.
The shooting was the result of an argument between Bartolino and a few people in the street near his house, according to the account he gave Boca Raton police. Eventually, the argument turned physical, and Bartolino went to his house, where he said he met up with Nguyen.

Nguyen, armed with a gun, returned to the street with Bartolino to confront the group of people, but one of them was armed with a gun as well, and fired shots at both men.

Bartolino sustained a wound to the arm, while Nguyen’s injuries were more serious.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found Nguyen on a neighbor’s driveway bloodied and unresponsive, while Bartolino was found inside Nguyen’s home.

Both men were taken to Delray Beach Medical Center. Shortly after arriving, Nguyen died as a result of his wounds.

Later on, two of the men who were present during the shooting contacted the police, and are now cooperating with detectives on the case.

The investigation is still ongoing, and Boca Raton police advise anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Scott Hanley at (561) 338-1344, or to call Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS.
