Local Kayak Champions Broke 31 Year Old World Record This Past Weekend

Current World Record holders and Gold Medalists Bruce Gipson and Lee McGregor have brokenimage001 their own World Record.

Gipson and McGregor first made the trek from Bimini to Fort Lauderdale 31 years ago breaking the record for fastest crossing of the Gulf Stream under human power by sea kayak. It took them 11 hrs. and 46 min. No one has since broken the record.

Until now.

Gipson and McGregor have once again broken their own record, this time making the trip in less than eight hours.

The Florida native and Boca Raton resident, Bruce Gipson has won over 150 kayak racing events and competed worldwide.  Gipson and McGregor not only have a love of water, they have a passion for disabled veterans and are raising money for the Wounded Warriors of South Florida.  “The Wounded Warriors of South Florida a very special charity and I admire the work they do,” says Gipson. “It is why I chose to work with them and do what I can to contribute to their cause.”  There’s great opportunities for Sponsorships and welcome to the shores from the adventure.
