Home is a very special place for everyone, especially for those who have been denied a home. That is why Sklar Furnishings — a contemporary furniture leader with showroom and design center in Boca Raton — continues its commitment to Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County (HFHSPBC) with its underwriting the build of the nonprofit’s 50th home in Delray. This is Sklar’s second Habitat home.

The official ceremonial ‘roof raising’ this week was perfectly timed in countdown to Thanksgiving and the holiday season. On hand to share in the excitement were HFHSBC Executive Director Michael Campbell, Rick and Pat Howard with Sklar Furnishings designers and staff, dozens of volunteers along with the soon-to-be-homeowners, the Montes family, Bony and Rilene Montes and their children Laurie (age 10) and Nadine (age 2). According to Rick Howard, who also serves as Chairman Elect of HFHSPBC, this home the organization’s 124th home in South Palm Beach County through its 23 years of service www.habitatsouthpalmbeach.org.

“If you are blessed in business there is no better way to give back in this community. Our entire organization, from our designers to our warehouse staff, is proud to support Habitat,” said Rick Howard. “We look forward to soon giving the keys to the Montes family and starting the build for Sklar’s third Habitat home.”

Michael Campbell, HFHSPBC Executive Director recognized the Howards’ continued commitment of gifting homes.

“A huge thank you goes out to Rick Howard for his tireless dedication to Habitat, not only by championing our mission and building homes, but also in his efforts to relentless efforts to encourage other companies and organizations to do so as well,” shared Campbell. “It takes the generosity of the community, spirited support and volunteerism for Habitat to continue to be successful in our mission of building homes, communities and hope.”

According to Campbell, the property was provided to Habitat for Humanity in 2013 along with five others by the CRA of Delray Beach. This will be the fourth home completed with that donation. The CRA has been dedicated to making an impact in the South West section of Delray Beach and continues to provide more opportunities to continue the revitalization of the community.

The Soon-to-be-Homeowners Story Began in November 2013

In November 2013 Bony officially started his partnership with Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County as a prospective homeowner.  Over the next two years he worked on 15 of the 21 homes in the Habitat Ocean Breeze West development in Boynton Beach, two homes completed in Delray Beach, and its home in the Water Chase Community of Boynton Beach.  Bony and Rilene have also worked with Habitat for Humanity’s Neighborhood Revitalization program, ReStore and have contributed 50 hours of community service.  They have completed 75 hours of classroom workshops that include eight financial education workshops, and eight classes on food and nutrition, in addition to an eight-hour homebuyer education course from a HUD approved housing counseling agency.
