Children’s Home Society Hold Annual Back-to-School Drive

Back to schoolBy: Stephanie Cornwell

The Children’s Home Society of Florida is holding its annual Back-to-School drive to collect school supplies for the children of Palm Beach County who may otherwise not have any.

The drive, which started mid-July, has no set end date and while school starts on August 17th, the Children’s Home Society will collect supplies year-round to replenish old supplies.

Jane Snell, the drive organizer and volunteer coordinator, states that “Because we serve youths of all ages, we collect basic school supplies for every grade – from crayons to scientific calculators.”

The drive helps nearly 7,000 students in Palm Beach County.

The items being collected include new backpacks, all types of notebooks, loose-leaf paper, pencils, pens, crayons, markers and gift cards.

When asked how much is normally donated to the drive, Snell states that “Each year is different. Last year we had donations from five companies, one guild, several individuals and about $25o in personally delivered checks.”

This money was then used to purchase additional school supplies.

Those wanting to donate can bring supplies to the Children’s Home Society office at 3333 Forest Hill Blvd. West Palm Beach, FL 33406, or contact Snell to arrange a pick-up/drop-off at Jane.Snell@chsfl.org.
