Florida Launch Ends Road Season with 20-14
Coming into the game as the MLL’s hottest team, the Florida Launch lost to the Denver Outlaws 2014 on Sunday, July 19 at Sports Authority Field. With the loss the Launch fall to 4-9 while the Outlaws improve to 6-7.
Kieran McArdle paced the Launch attack with four goals, all coming in the second half. Connor Buczek became the league’s leader in two-point goals in the loss, adding another goal with an assist for four points in the game. Lyle Thompson chipped in one goal with two assists for three points. Miles Thompson and Roman Lao-Gosney both provided two points, with a goal and assist for M. Thompson and two goals from Lao-Gosney.
Chris Mattes handled the bulk of the face-offs for the Launch, going 15-28 at the specialist position while also leading the team with nine groundballs.
Austin Kaut was tabbed with the loss, playing 45 minutes of the game with 13 saves. Brett Quenner logged the final 15 minutes of goalie action.
- Lao-Gosney started the game with the opening goal, coming 1:03 after the initial face-off. Two minutes later the game had its first tie off of an Erik Adamson, but L. Thompson got a pass from brother M. Thompson to put the Launch back up one at 2-1 with under 10 minutes in the opening quarter. Denver yet again tied the game with a Michael Bocklet score, then taking its first lead of the game with a goal from Jeremy Sieverts. Making his first appearance since May, Duncan Clancy tied the game at 3-3 with a goal, but the tie was short-lived as Bocklet scored again to put the Outlaws back up one. In reverse fashion to the previous time, L. Thompson found M. Thompson during a powerplay opportunity to tie the game up again with a 4-4 score. Denver ended the opening quarter with the final two goals with scores from Chris Snyder and C. Bockley to put the Launch down 6-4.
Jovan Miller ended the home teams run with the first goal of the second half off the flick pass from Casey Ikeda. After almost seven minutes of physical, scoreless play, Tucker Durkin took the ball from the Launch’s defensive side of the field to its offensive side tying the game at 6-6. Denver responded to the Launch’s 2-0 rally quickly with Michael Bocklet putting the Outlaws up one, but a Connor Buczek goal tied the game again at 7. Just like in the previous quarter, the Outlaws scored the final two goals of the frame with C. Bocklet keeping Denver ahead in the back and forth half with a goal followed by another snider score before the intermission.
Coming out of the halftime break, Denver continued the run they started in the previous quarter with back-to-back goals from the Bocklet brothers. After surrendering another Denver goal, this time from Snider, Kieran McArdle scored to end the Outlaws 5-0 run and make it a 12-8 contest. David Dickinson made it a five-goal game again for the Outlaws before R. Lao-Gosney scored his second goal of the game to bring the lead back down to four. Denver’s C. Bocklet and Snider scored the final goals of the third frame to make the Launch’s deficit six at 15-9.
Riding the momentum from the previous stanza, M. Bocklet extended Denver’s lead to seven, quickly putting Florida down eight after C. Bocklet found the back of the net. McArdle put the Launch in double digits with his second goal of the game, cutting the visiting side’s deficit to seven at 17-10, recording the hat trick following a C. Bocklet score to make it an 18-11 contest. M. Bocklet quickly responded to McArdle’s goal with a score of his own, followed by a Grant goal to put the Launch down 20-11. Florida ended the game with a 3-0 run, with Buczek scoring his fourth two-point goal of the season followed by McArdle’s fourth goal of the game made the final score 20-14.
