     Yvonne Boice was recently appointed by Governor Rick Scott to serve as a member of the Florida Film and Entertainment Advisory Council. As part of an elite 17 member team, Boice will focus on developing, marketing and promoting Florida’s entertainment industry. As the former chair of the Palm Beach International Film Festival (PBIFF), her leadership garnered the event’s ranking as “one of the top ten destination film festivals in the world” by MovieMaker Magazine.       The Securities and Exchange Commission accused Boca Raton resident Stephen Parnell, who ran Ireeco, a company that illegally raised money from foreign investors because it hadn’t registered as a securities broker and received commissions of up to $35,000 for each investor it wooed, but Ireeco LLC and Ireeco Limited agreed to stop breaking securities law without admitting or denying the SAEC’s findings.

     The Palm Beach County Commission approved the development of 211 town homes on 42 acres in the middle of the Boca Dunes Golf Course on Lyons.

     Subway entrepreneur Larry Feldman was elected vice chair for the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County’s campaign.

     Clive Daniel Home, a 70,000 sq. ft. showroom offering area rugs, cabinetry, custom window treatments, lighting, accessories and other home furnishings broke ground at 1351 NW Boca Raton Blvd on the northwest corner of Glades Road, employing 65, 25 interior decorators and opening early next year.

     Ongoing work on a new Interstate 95 exit in Boca Raton is causing a shift in traffic patterns for the week. Beginning late Monday, traffic traveling south on I-95 will be shifted closer to the median just south of Yamato Road. In addition, the southbound entrance ramp to the highway from eastbound Yamato will close nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until Friday. Also, the southbound entrance ramp from westbound Yamato will close periodically during the same time. Drivers will have to take Congress Avenue during those closures.

     The last Sonny’s BBQ restaurant in Palm Beach County on Lake Worth Road in Greenacres has closed. Stuart or Clewiston are the closest open now.

     Rejecting the advice of their staff on getting Florida Power & Light into the natural gas drilling business, state utility regulators allowed FP&l to bill rate payers around $500 million bucks in drilling costs. Consumer watchdogs reported the giant utility, which made $1.3 billion in profits last year, places 100% of the drilling risk on ratepayers while pocketing any profits.

     Palm Beach County posted a little over 1700 home sales in May, up 6% compared to last year, with 48% being cash buys.

     Palm Beach County tourism officials reported that April was a sizzling month with a 7% increase in tourists over April of last year, plus 376,000 hotel night bookings were sold to out of town visitors and the tourism bed tax was up a stunning 26% compared to last year. The county provides over 16,000 hotel rooms generating a 6% sales tax when occupied.

     South Florida publisher Bankrate announced it may be nailed with a $15 million fine for cooking the books. The Security and Exchange Commission is levying the fine, which financial pros said was a bit of an overkill for a relative small error involving a $5 million statement over three years. Bankrate also revealed it is moving its West Palm Beach headquarters to New York City.

     In 2014, South Florida’s major airlines took in $3 billion in reservation changes and in the first quarter, collected a record $1.6 billion in fees.

     Thousands are expected in two parks on Saturday for the city’s Fabulous Fourth and Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation’s eighth annual July Fourth Celebration. The city’s event officially starts at 6:30 p.m. with free family activities in Spanish River Athletic Facilities at de Hoernle Park for the third year. There’s no parking on the premises or across the street at Spanish River Library.
