Boca Raton FC hosted their second game of the season at Boca Raton High School (a.k.a. “The Shipyard”) on Friday, May 15 at 8:00 p.m., where they faced off against Miami Dade FC with a massive showing from fans that allowed the team to once again break its home attendance record.
There were 662 people in attendance at Friday’s game, which allowed the team to break the American Professional Soccer League (APSL) home attendance record with this massive turnout. Boca Raton FC also held the previous record for home attendance when they hosted their first game of the season on May 1st, where they won 4-1 against South Florida FC. That game had 519 fans turn out to root for the team.
“The atmosphere was electric,” says head coach Marcelo Castillo. “The support we have been receiving from the community has been tremendous and having over 600 fans tonight at our game is a huge indication of that.”
For Friday’s game the team used #PackTheYard on social media as its official marketing campaign to alert fans and the local community to come out and support the team on May 15th. Boca Raton FC even had a special limited-time promotion that allowed fans to get free tickets to the game if they used the promo code PACKTHEYARD when they purchased tickets on the team’s official website.
“It’s very special to me to play at home in front of an electrifying crowd like this,” said midfielder Colby Burdette, who played for the Boca Raton High School Bobcats in High School. “This turnout will only get better as continue to build and grow during this APSL season. We are still building the fanbase, it will only get better and louder.”
The Shipyard is already the most feared stadium in the league to come to during a game, fans from the opposing team were impressed with how loud the Shipyard can get and opposing players are respectful of the job well done by the Boca Raton FC staff.
“This is a professional level organization,” Roberto Linck, of Miami Dade FC told reporters after the game. “Boca Raton FC is doing everything right and this is the loudest stadium in the league.”
While Boca Raton FC did end up losing 1-0 to Miami Dade FC, everyone in attendance was cheering for their team as they enjoyed the night with both family and friends.
