WHO WE ARE:
My sisters and I started a non-profit kidney foundation in New York City in 2008, “The Flood Sisters Kidney Foundation of America”. We had an “out of the box” idea to post an ad on craigslist for a donor for our sick father who was diagnosed with kidney disease.
We had used craigslist in the past for selling our jewelry, for networking, for childcare and it was a success. So, we thought, ” Why not use it for finding dad a donor”? We were not matches for him and the idea was a shot in the dark! I was a nurse and knew the traditional method- national waiting lists and or dialysis were not options for him! The story received a lot of media exposure. After a year and 4 months, over 100 people responded to the ad nationwide.
END RESULT:
An amazing woman in California was a perfect match and saved our father’s life.
My sisters and I knew we wanted to now help others going through the process as we had been through the journey with our father.
TODAY:
Our non-profit, ” The Flood Sisters Kidney Foundation of America” educates the world (children, adults, adolescents) on kidney health, diet and living kidney donation.
We also match those in need nationwide and have coordinated 7 transplants so far including our fathers. Our 7th transplant occurred end of April in New York. The young man was 16 year old,
Michael Dellorso of Bedford, NY. He is doing amazing and recovering well thanks to an amazing woman. We are currently working with several patients, including a 2o year old young woman, Andrea Samson from New Jersey, a 21 year old young man, Robert Rodriguez from the Bronx, a 39 year old school teacher, Robert Graham from New Jersey and COO of Facebook Sheryl Sandberg’s friend, Dr. Ellen Sherman of Boca Raton, Florida.
We will be celebrating our 7th transplant success at our Annual Love.Give.Life. Flood Sisters Fashion Show Gala on Thursday, June 11th at Trump Tower in New York City. Top designers are involved including, Norma
