     The Boca Raton City Council unanimously passed Palm Beach County’s first municipal moratorium on medical marijuana centers. The new ordinance halts cultivation, processing, distributing or selling marijuana or “related activities” for at least a year and comes before the Nov. 4 vote on a statewide referendum that would legalize medical marijuana if approved.

    Palm Beach County September single family home sales were 1355, up 23% over last year, with 50% being cash buys, 248 changing hands in foreclosures and 80 short sales.

 

     The nation’s largest health insurer United Health Care, a major player in South Florida, revealed its third quarter profits were a healthy $33 billion, which came on the backs of  policy holders being rocked with increased premiums, reduced coverage and higher deductibles. The insurer also nailed South Florida customers by dumping doctors and hospitals from its in network coverage.    

 

      President Obama has opened the gates for thousands of Haitian migrants to enter South Florida without visa restrictions. The White House executive order bypassing Congress has created an uproar with Republican Senators who charge the President for being irresponsible. Taxpayers will pick up the costly tab for providing housing, food stamps and medical services for the influx of migrants.

 

     The Census Bureau reported Florida’s foreign born population increased 140,000 in the past four years, with the majority settling in South Florida. Migration from the northern U.S. and abroad dwindled during the recession to 75,000 four years ago, but last year Florida’s population gain shot up to 253,000 fueled by the economic recovery. Most people are coming from Latin America, Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Venezuela. There were 140,000 foreign-born population who moved to Florida since 2010. 700 people move to Florida every day, 350 to South Florida. Florida’s population has grown by 253,000 since 2010.
